Terre Stregate
Benevento, Campania
Terre Stregate, or “Land of the Bewitched,” certainly makes spellbinding wines. This family-owned estate, nestled in the Guardia Sanframondi hills just outside Naples, is a cornerstone of tradition and organic farming, blending modern precision with rustic elegance. Known for producing both exceptional olive oils and wines, the winery’s roots go back to 1898, when Filippo Iacobucci founded the farm. Though wine production was nearly abandoned under his son Armando's direction, Armando's grandson, also named Armando, revived the family’s winemaking in 2004. Originally focused on olive oil after two generations of selling grapes, the family returned to winemaking under Carlo Iacobucci’s leadership. Today, he and his sister, Filomena, manage the vineyards, cultivating native varieties like Aglianico, Falanghina, Fiano, and Greco on the slopes of Monti del Matese. The estate’s carefully harvested grapes undergo detailed analysis in their on-site lab, ensuring quality in every bottle.
With nearly ten generations of history behind it, Terre Stregate embodies the essence of timeless winemaking, making it one of the most authentic producers in our portfolio. Filomena, the next in line to lead the estate, is not just a visionary, but a newfound friend to us, making this partnership all the more special.
The Iacobucci family proudly carries forward the rich history and traditions of their home in the Sannio Beneventano region, Campania. Terre Stregate’s headquarters feature an expansive underground cellar, where their wines age, alongside a restaurant serving traditional regional dishes.
Terre Stregate’s logo speaks to their connection with the land—Diana’s sun, Iside’s moon, and Hekate’s watchful eye, symbols of the gods who protect and nurture the vineyard’s bounty. We’re proud to present two wines, a Falanghina IGP and an Aglianico IGP, each a reflection of Campania’s fantastic terroir.
2023 Falanghina ‘Trama’
Trama is a Falanghina IGP. Refreshing and balanced, with floral and fruity notes, it’s a light, fresh and vibrant wine.
Winemaking:
100% Falanghina grown in Colline Guardiesi. The high density (5000 vines per hectare), 23 year-old vines sit at 350-400 meters above sea level on clayey-calcareous soil.
The grapes are harvested by hand, in crates, when the bunches reach full phenolic and sugar ripeness, by the end of September, first ten days of October. They are whole bunch pressed. Fresh must is protected from oxygen and clarified by natural sedimentation. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature entirely in stainless steel vats.
The wine is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, through the management of the fine lees with regular bâtonnage. It is refined in bottle for 3 to 4 weeks.
Tasting Notes:
Straw yellow colour with greenish reflections. Rich in varietal aromas, with notes of exotic fruit and almond. There's a good level of acidity providing freshness on the palate, good structure, and a persistent finish with a notable aromatic complexity.
2021 Aglianico ‘Idillio’
Idillio is balance and harmony incarnated. It has character and an approachable structure.
Winemaking:
100% Aglianico Benevento PGI, produced in Colline Guardiesi at 300-400 meters above sea level on clayey-calcareous soil, rich in fossils.
The grapes are harvested by hand, in crates, at phenolic ripeness during the 3rd week of October
They are destemmed, crushed and fermented in thermo-conditioned stainless steel wine vats. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at controlled temperature, varying between 25 and 28 C, in order to extract colour, tannin and flavour compounds of the skin, through periodic pump overs. At the end of fermentation, submerged cap maceration takes place (a very important phase because, in addition to prolonging the period of extraction from the skins, it facilitates the stabilisation of the colour). Malolactic fermentation follows for the microbiological stabilisation of the wine. The wine is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, then in bottle for 6 to 8 months.
Tasting Notes:
Ruby red colour. It has pronounced aromas, from the typical spicy to red and black berry fruit-driven notes, with a soft but lively tannic structure. It has medium, harmonious structure.
